Smart Backup - Back up your data on local drives, email or FTP servers
It always pays to be prepared, especially if you are working on an important project, which involves countless files. Anything can happen, from hardware failure to human error and without a spare copy of that vital data, life can become more difficult. Smart Backup offers a fast and reliable solution for backing up your files. You can use it to store them on local or removable drives, FTP servers or send them by email. It comes with a straightforward scheduling feature, which can be configured swiftly.
During the installation process, the program's contents will be extracted directly from the setup package and not downloaded. The setup kit is only 1.13 Mb large, so it will not take long to download it or to install the software. If your computer is powered by Windows 98 or any higher version and it has a processor of at least 300 MHz, then you can run the software without a problem.
The software lets you create one or more backup tasks, which can be executed automatically, according to a schedule, or manually. Once created, they are displayed in a table of contents, along with additional information, like a task's frequency, when it will be executed, if it is scheduled and where it will copy the files. If you select a task, you can use the buttons, beneath the table of contents, to edit, delete or run it or create a new one.
Creating a task involves working with a small number of options, on a separate window. You will have to select a source and a destination folder and set the task's frequency, as well as the time of day when it will be executed. You can, of course, set the task to manual and run it on the main interface.
You may create a task which will save your data on a local or a removable drive, or you can set it to save the data on a FTP server or send it by email. These options can be selected from a drop menu, when creating a task. Once you select one, the required fields, for typing an address, password and so on, will appear on the same window.
Pros:
The software lets you create backup tasks fast. There are only a few options to go through before scheduling any number of backups. Smart Backup can run in the system tray and because it is lightweight, you will not lose too many resources.
Cons:
It is not possible to select a backup method, like adding the files to an archive.
With Smart Backup's straightforward functions, it will take you just a few seconds to schedule routine backup tasks for your important data.
